kent

canterbury

(September 20/02)

I've always wanted to see Canterbury, because I've never really seen much of Kent and the Time Team did a really cool dig here recently. Unfortunately, my camera battery died after we visited the cathedral, so I only have shots of this particular site. No, I didn't learn my lesson after forgetting my recharger when I went to the Lake District a few months ago. I'm telling you, I've got a mind like a sieve.

Another shot of the cathedral from the outside.

The cathedral from the inside.

leeds castle

(September 21/02)

Leeds Castle - it isn't actually in Leeds, confusingly enough. It's in Kent, and the brochure says it's the most beautiful castle in the world. Since I've only seen English and Scottish castles, I'll have to take their word for it. It is indeed a lovely castle, surrounded by a moat with grounds containing a maze and aviary.

Paul, still pretending to be Canadian in his birthday hoodie.

This is the maze, which really is quite large and challenging. Apparently there is some trick to navigating mazes, but we had to rely on alternative means of finding our way out.

Paul trying to lose me in the maze.

Here are our navigators (with a few other kids) - Paul's two cousins Bella and James who shouted out "Left! Right!" and "You're going the wrong way! Bwwaaaahahahaha!" at us. They've done the maze a few times before and got to the centre in about 30 seconds.

To leave the maze, you wind your way through a rocky grotto. This is the stone-faced waterfall that greets you at the entrance.
