I always consider Montreal to be "home" slightly more than Toronto because I lived there for 11 years before moving to the UK. It's cold, the language issues and politics can do your head in, but it's one of the best cities on earth. It's fun and funky, and one of my favourite places to be.

My Mom and Dad treated us to a night at the Royal York hotel in Toronto. It's right across the street from the train station, and a short walk to a lot of shops and restaurants. As my Mom kept reminding us, The Beatles stayed here when they played in Toronto many moons ago. This is a pic of the lobby all tarted up for Christmas. |
A new mall opened up in the past year called Les Ailes. It's a bit posh, and rather superfluous - Montreal does not need another mall. At any rate, we went to check it out and it had the added bonus of being out of the cold. |

Another view of the atrium in Les Ailes. |
We had a wander around Old Montreal, which I think is quite pretty and wonderfully quiet this time of year. |

Paul chatting to Russ in the UK, and being charged an insane amount of money for using an international mobile. He doesn't look too worried about it, though. |
Bonsecours Market, which is filled with shops containing local "artisan" items. |
|
Paul, posing slightly as we take pictures and videos of Old Montreal. |
This is Place Jacques-Cartier, and is usually filled with buskers and tourists in the summer. |
|
A view down one of the streets as we walked around. |
This is the new Science Centre, right next to the IMAX cinema. |
|
The Science Centre inside. It wasn't the most exciting place to be (and kind of lame in comparison to the Ontario Science Centre), but it filled a few hours in the afternoon. |
Another picture inside the Science Centre. |

Me playing with the funhouse mirrors. Whee! |
This was from a display about how pixels work (i.e. how to make images from individual blocks of colour). Here's my artistic contribution. Awwww. |
